Conekt has been at the forefront of advanced vehicle chassis systems development for many years thanks to its skills and experience in vehicle dynamics.  As a result Conekt, has conducted research and development for TRW in chassis systems, developing prototype steering systems for many of the products on the market today, notably the Electrically Powered Steering (EPS).

It was Conekt’s involvement in advanced chassis systems and the continuous support of the EPS product that led to the development of two related products; an advanced Steer-By-Wire vehicle demonstrator and a driving simulator.  Both of these projects required a highly controllable and powerful steering actuator.  To meet these requirements a steering system was taken from a high volume TRW product line and modified to provide the precise required control.

The result is a highly durable and accurate steering actuator, which is capable of delivering high torque outputs.  This actuator incorporates the reliability of a mass produced automotive system and the controllability of a force-feedback steering wheel.

Conekt is now able to offer this steering actuator, the Active Steering Wheel System (ASWS), for use in high fidelity driving simulators.  Recent development of the base system has resulted in ASWS2, which boasts increased closed loop bandwidth and a compact power solution option.  Technical specifications can be found on the Active Steering Wheel System product datasheet.
