Sensing

TRW Conekt’s expertise in sensing and measurement technology spans more than 25 years. Most of Conekt’s sensing projects involve solving measurement problems within ‘difficult’ and hostile environments.

Conekt’s knowledge and experience enables the provision of innovative solutions to a wide range of problems.

Typical projects include:

  • Requirements capture, feasibility / trade studies and technology evaluation
  • Concept design, demonstration and prototyping
  • Instrumentation sensors & systems
  • Sensor validation and qualification
  • Design / build of test rigs

As Conekt is independent of any sensor manufacturer, it is able to provide impartial advice to its customers.
Respecting the confidentiality of its customers is integral to the service offered by Conekt.

Some typical project examples include:

  • Trade study for ‘electronic noses’ in high-temperature applications for a major petrochemical company
  • Concept development and demonstration to a major aircraft OEM of ultra-low-power wireless sensing system for structural health monitoring of aircraft structures
  • Instrumentation fibre-optic sensors for hydraulic valve validation for an automotive supplier
  • Design and demonstration of an innovative touch-screen solution to an automotive OEM

To continually develop and enhance its knowledge of the sensing and measurement field, Conekt continues to work with leading universities, professional bodies and knowledge transfer organisations.  Conekt has a long standing relationship with the Electronics, Sensors & Photonics Knowledge Transfer Network (ESP KTN) and its Sensors & Instrumentation Knowledge Centre (SIKC) to help promote the transfer of innovative sensor technology between industry sectors and also between researchers, technology developers and end users.

Conekt’s sensing and measurement capability is also enhanced by participation in Government-funded collaborative R&D projects including the TSB-funded “WiTNESSS”, a project to research and de-risk wireless data transmission technology for aircraft applications and the EU FP7 project “Smart-RRS” which is developing intelligent crash barriers to improve the safety of vulnerable road users.
