Materials Testing and Mechanical
The materials evaluation and test group offers key support services to many of the capabilities offered by Conekt. This can range from a simple photograph to show a product has sustained no damage from a test, to a full failure investigation with detailed photographs of fracture surfaces and explanations of probable cause, and if required, key remedial actions to be taken.
Both destructive and non destructive mechanical testing can be undertaken over a range of criteria:
-
Shock
-
Tensile strength
-
Compression loads
-
Cyclic loading
-
Strain measurement

The ability to analyse test pieces and products, whether as received or as failed is invaluable. To this end we have a range of facilities that can be used as appropriate to the task in hand:
-
The scanning electron microscope (SEM) is equipped with remote viewing software and has electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) capability allowing for the qualitative analysis of metals (SEM chamber dimensions up to 30x11x20 cm). For non-metallic materials, identification is by Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectroscopy (FTIR)
-
Equipment and facilities for standard metallographic examination, enabling micro structures to be evaluated
-
Differential scanning calorimetry, expansion measurements, water determination, a range of hardness testers, 3D real time x-ray analysis and susceptibility to ozone are also available. (X-ray capacity dimensions up to 40x13x40 cm)
With the aid of the on site prototyping facility, jigs and fixtures can be made to allow for the testing of even the most unusual shaped products completing the service offered by Conekt. Conekt's UKAS accredited testing laboratory No. 0332 also provides a range of testing services to support your test requirements.
